Wildlife Conservation Program

Rhino conservation

Southern Trapper is committed to supporting the environment and wildlife conservation - our purpose is to encourage patrons to lead more fulfilling lives, through a deep personal connection to adventure and the great outdoors.

In the words of Southern Trapper CEO Dane Schemel, “If we’re going to benefit from offering products made from natural resources, we must exemplify courageous conservation and encourage our patrons to be great citizens of Earth”.

Our Wildlife Conservation Program is designed to support nonprofit groups that improve wildlife conditions and advocate for nature, to assure our beautiful world continues to flourish for future generations. Through this program, we hope to align avid outdoor enthusiasts with nonprofit organizations to make the world a better place.

Here’s how the program works – When a customer reaches Southern Trapper's checkout page, they will be prompted to select one nonprofit group to direct 1% of the pre-tax sales price towards. A drop down menu will list the participating nonprofit groups, and the customer will direct the 1% donation towards one of the groups listed. Quarterly, Southern Trapper sends a check to each organization, for the customer directed donations. To increase awareness, each organization's story, mission, and purpose are published below.

CARE FOR WILD RHINO ORPHANAGE

Wild Rhino Orphanage

RESCUE, REHABILITATE, RELEASE

The vision at Care for Wild Rhino Orphanage is to secure free ranging African Rhinoceros in protected sanctuaries across Africa, and to ensure the survival of the species for future generations.

Baby rhinos that are orphaned in the wild rarely survive. The mission of Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary is to rescue every rhino that is orphaned, to heal them, and to provide a totally secure environment where they can grow, roam free, and breed to ensure that there will always be rhinos in Africa.

Care For Wild Rhino Sanctuary is a ray of hope located in the heartland of Mpumalanga, South Africa, where a treatment and care center has been set up to serve the needs of injured or orphaned animals - Petronel Nieuwoudt, the founder of Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary, is an incredible person with a enormous wealth of knowledge in the care and rehabilitation of wildlife but particularly Rhinos - With an agreement with South African National Parks to care for orphans from the kruger system, Petronel is truly committed to her mantra of Rescue, Rehabilitate and then Release. Each and every rhino is released back onto a large area with incense security to live a normal, natural rhino life. This cannot be achieved on her own and a team of consulting veterinarians, nutritionists, ecologists, and other specialists ensure the successful rehabilitation and release of these animals.

Sadly with the poaching reaching epidemic proportions the Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary has grown to be the largest rhino sanctuary and orphanage in the world, but as sad as this is, it remains a bright ray of hope and sunshine for the orphans who represent the next generation of rhino.
