What is the SIG P365?

For years, firearms companies have been forced to balance concealment with capacity. Across the industry, manufacturers have struggled to pack as much firepower as possible into a small package that won’t give away its position. SIG seems to have solved this problem with their concealed carry firearm: the P365. In this post, we’ll look at the pros and cons of the P365 and what you can do to successfully conceal it. That includes which custom concealed carry holsters you’ll want for your SIG P365.

What is the SIG P365?

The SIG P365 may be a relatively new design, but it’s been taking the gun world by storm. Designed in 2017 and released in 2018, the P365 was an instant hit. It quickly established itself as the most popular concealed carry pistol, becoming the best selling handgun in 2018 and 2019. There’s a reason for that.

At first, the P365 might not look that impressive. But looks can be deceiving. While most micro compact concealed carry pistols can only hold 10 rounds or so, you can cram up to 15 cartridges into a P365. That’s nearly double the capacity of the average 1911. And it’s one of the reasons that the P365 has been such a success.SIG P365 XL

Another benefit of the P365 is variety. You’re not just limited to 9mm with this firearm. In addition, it’s rated for +P (extra pressure) ammo. You can also find them chambered in 380. That’s a great choice for anyone who finds the recoil of a 9mm a little intimidating.

Here’s another huge benefit of the P365: its Fire Control Unit (FCU). SIG designed the P365 to be totally modular. As a result, neither the grip or the slide of a P365 is legally considered a “firearm.” Instead, the gun’s internals, including the trigger group, are what count as a “firearm.”

This may not seem like a big deal, but it actually is. It means that you can remove the guts of your P365 and replace everything else with different parts. Want a different grip? No problem. Seeking a different slide, maybe with a red dot? Super simple. Just pop the FCU out and move it over to its new home.

Is the SIG P365 a Good Concealed Carry Gun?

If you’re looking for a reliable, powerful, and stealthy concealed carry gun, you can’t do better than a P365. It’s easy to conceal, and doesn’t “print” (show itself under clothing) as much as nearly any other gun, even other micro compact pistols.

But to do that successfully, you’re going to need the right gun holster. And while there may be some concealed carry holsters out there for the P365, they’re not perfect. If you switch out your grips or slide, or decide to add a tactical light or red dot, your options get significantly slimmer. Instead, your best choice is to pick up a custom concealed carry gun holster for your P365.
